there are more junior pilots than the cqfo's upgrading to captain at TSA?
would a cqfo have to go through training again for captain since they already qualified as captain?

No. They are converted and no training is required but since they are still dual qualified, can be used in the right seat at Captain pay until their next training event.

Yeah, there's FOs that are junior to a bunch of CQFOS getting an upgrade next month. It's got to be a mistake... Unless there's a list of CQFOS that are getting a conversion to full captain that they just failed to publish before leaving for the weekend.

And if it's not one of the above, then it's a pretty f☆☆☆☆☆ up situation.

Sounds like the crisis was averted again. We can put our panic away for another few weeks.

I didn't dig out the standing bids to check, but if the "by-passed" CQFO's had listed, for instance, CA at Senior Base (DEN) as their 1st choice and CA Junior Base (STL) as last choice, would not a Junior FO "by-pass" him if that FO bid CA @ Junior Base as #1 pref?

In this case, the CQFO is not truly BY-PASSED, he has chosen domicile over upgrade b/c his seniority cannot hold CA in his chosen base.
