The company proposal would have given American Airlines Group (AAG) contract concessions in return for refleeting American Eagle Airlines with new Embraer 175 jets.

Company representatives made it clear that should the pilots and management fail to reach a deal, the company will not entertain future negotiations. Negotiators for AAG also stated numerous times that if a deal fails to be ratified, American Eagle Airlines will be downsized continually until it is small enough to liquidate.

Captain William Sprague, Chairman of the pilot’s union had this to say: “The vote today was about the future of Eagle pilots and the regional airline pilot profession. The pilots negotiated and signed a concessionary agreement during the recent bankruptcy, and management asked us soon after AAG exited bankruptcy for additional, significant concessions. Our pilots decided they were not willing to work for less than the company is already paying our peers. We will now begin the process of assisting our pilots in identifying alternative career options within the industry.”

During the coming days, ALPA will be working with the American Eagle pilots to help them find placement with other airlines. ALPA representatives will ask management for their timetable regarding the liquidation of American Eagle. Stay engaged as we move forward. The need for unity is more critical now than any other time in our history.

John Gardner, Chairman

EGL ALPA Communications Committee

Looks like the MEC does not believe this was all a bluff.
Ahh, allow me to provide the translation for those having difficulty reading between the lines.

Accordingly, the Eagle MEC decided that as they were elected as representatives, they ought to "represent" rather than pass the buck onto the voters, in case the lack of mental fortitude demonstrated by voters like Bzzt was more widespread than they thought. They went beyond a simple "no" to tell management "f*ck no, are you f*cking stupid or do you not read the f*cking newspapers!?" through their vote, and passed the job of translating this message onto me, your Communications Committee Chairman.

Therefore, I am calling AAG out on their threats. You say you're going to liquidate? OK jokers, we'll take you on your word. Go ahead - liquidate if you can! Meanwhile, we'll see if you can even keep up with our rate of attrition. Chances are, within a year you'll be coming to us to look at upping first year pay because you can't even attract enough pilots to staff the flying we still have. Suck it, a$$hat$!
Congrats for doing the right thing, Eagle MEC. Together with the XJT vote and all the press lately about how low pay has created the pilot shortage, I think you just did something huge and potentially transformative for our profession. Thank you.

Bzzt would brake into your house and steal you blind as long it got him to the big show of criminals. Bzzt wants everyone to give up pay and work rules so he can get ahead. Bzzt is so in tune to contracts that I wish he does get to AA and quick so he can enjoy AA's pay guarantee's such as line guarantee, sequence guarantee and Reassignment Guarantee, Cancellation Guarantee, Transition guarantee, oh wait AA DOES NOT HAVE ANY GUARANTEES except minimum guarantee or if cancelled you have to volunteer to fly to keep the sequence pay.

See Bzzt is a stooge troll, Mr. Yes Man for management, Mr. Bzzt will step all over everyone as long as it helps him. My generation called that a back stabbing sleaze ball who should be isolated and ignored.

Bzzt anything you would like to add.

Thank you Eagle MEC for taking a stand. How it will turn out for us is unknown but take it from a 7 year FO at XJT (with 4 kids and a mortgage) that I don't want to see our profession degraded any further. PCL_128 said it best below as to why:

You can't just throw a passenger off a plane because you don't like them just like Doug Parker can't just fire all the Envoy pilots because they won't cooperate. This is America.
