You are in the seat you are in, in the airplane you are in, until that time is up. Horizon has a 4 year initial seat lock and a 2 year upgrade seat lock.

For example, if you're hired into the Q, you'll do a minimum of 4 years time in the right seat there. If you reach upgrade before that time is up, you upgrade and incur another 2 years in the left seat in whatever airplane you take the upgrade. If you don't reach upgrade by the time your 4 years is up, you'd be free to bid over to the jet.

Not likely....

A joint announcement from Management:

E175 basing and domiciles

As we move forward toward the delivery of our first E175, there have been some questions surrounding the basing of the aircraft and domiciles. The first thing we want to clarify is that when we talk about “basing,” we’re talking about the bases where the aircraft and airlines are based. When we talk about “domiciles,” we’re talking about where our crews are based. There is a distinct difference between the two, and we want to ensure that as we progress, we’re using the same language.

For 2017, the basing for the E175s will be a combination of Seattle and Portland, and there will be no location changes to the domiciles. Instead, you will see increased numbers in these domiciles to fulfill the amplified flying. For pilots and flight attendants, jet domiciles will be in Portland and Seattle. We’ll have more specific details on this in the next few months when the marketing plan is finalized.

It is understandable that people want to know where they will be domiciled, and when they might expect the opportunity to successfully bid into the equipment based there. Flight schedules are typically locked down about six months prior to operation, at a time when tickets are made available for purchase by the general public.

Additionally, we are working through the purchases of additional software that will give our crewmembers better visibility forward, to where they might expect to land when the bidding for new domiciles or positions closes out.

As for the Q400 domiciles and bases, they will shift naturally as we pull down Q400 flying (which isn’t scheduled to occur until 2018).

We want to thank all of our flight crews for their dedication to running our airline safely and on time. As we know more details, we’ll continue to update you.

Based on what I have seen and read when involving this new "pilot development program" they have out with some of the area flight schools in the PNW...are they making only those involved in that program sign a 2 year training contract or is this for all new hires coming in?

Only for those taking money.

If you take the money and you have a two year commitment to the airline. What equipment you think your going to get? The Q or the Jet?

The Jet will be easy to fill with new FOs but those with out a contract may say Jet or I'll go somewhere else.
Then the company will struggle to fill the Q classes. But wait we have these contract bound people, they owe us so to the Q they Go they have not choice.
Just think about the hidden strings before you take the easy money.
Not saying that's what's going to happen, but its big business and its all about the needs of the company. If your bound to work for them by contract, your basically an indentured servant.

Alaska is retaliating against the pilot group in response for voting down the garbage new hire LOA. Today we found out that once again, our scheduling committees version of bid 292 has been denied by management due to the claim of not meeting the required cost structure and due to staffing issues.

It's comical because they did the same thing to us last bid saying we didn't meet the cost requirement by a quarter of 1%, so the company edited the schedule to their liking, and they made it even more expensive requiring more crews.

Management has the most efficient trip build sitting right in front of them, yet they will force more pilots to work and cost the company more money just so they can spite us. The trips will be so inefficient, almost everyone will be working christmas with min days off (13 in a 35 day period).

As posted above, this is what life is now like at QX...if you come here, you do so at your own peril. The crews are still awesome and you'll have fun flying with them, but why anyone in their right mind would come here is beyond me.

Go elsewhere, and make sure if someone from QX management ask why you chose another airline, make sure to explain to them that the pilot market has changed and they're not just behind the 8 ball...they're not even on the same table.

Dear Horizon,
I'd love to come work for you. You were so loved and cherished by pilots 20 years ago. The best place to go. We'd sell our souls and forgive you that we can't feed our children more than macaroni and cheese or give them more than a one bedroom apartment and that was a stretch from paycheck to paycheck. I'm sure there were weekly discussions with the beloved ones about why Horizon was a career choice when McDonald's pays the same, has better hours and was a lot closer but who makes McDonald's a career choice? Desperate people… That's who. Times are changing Horizon. Pilots no longer have to work for pathetic wages for years. Your horrible pilot exploitation is over and if you don't pay attention to the FO income trends, which are now at 60,000 a year, you'll continue to have no one filling classrooms.… You and Mesa have hit bottom. What happened? You were the beautiful prom queen that we all wanted to introduced to mother but now you're more like a cracked out drug dealer that thinks they can continue to behave this way.

Think of this as a intervention from your long lost uncle who really loved you but can't be around you.

Sad uncle
