Default Flying without a transponder

Hi

I just want to get the views on flying without a transponder in this day and age in a controlled airspace which has no radar.
In the process of pitching an argument to some hard heads of how unsafe that is and looking for any views, for and against

Thanks

Save your energy. Go fly a Cub. Look out the window.

Surveillance Relief is possible in certain circumstances (no electrics) as the previous poster stated. However, ADS-B out will become mandatory in a few short years. Enjoy the incognito freedom while it lasts...

Technically legal but bad idea. And that includes antique vacuum tube units that barely work half the time.

The kerosene burners usually have poor visibility and are often pretty busy in the terminal area.

Every pilot in VMC conditions is responsible for see and avoid.

You could argue just because it's legal, is it safe?

I borrow a luscombe from time to time, no electrical system. I usually stick to 2500-3500ft just to stay below most "speedier" traffic. Keep the handheld on and tuned to nearest CTAF or tower, etc....

If I understand correctly, the ADS-B out is only going to be in certain airspace, not all of it. But yeah, isn't it great knowing your every move can be tracked, yippee.

Grow a pair, but that would be asking too much. I've seen plenty of people like you and I know you never stop until you suck the life out of aviation as best as you can.

I don't think the insult was called for, but otherwise you're quite correct.

Maybe, but I've run out of patience with that crowd.

Pretty sure the exemption older non-electrical aircraft still applies for ADS-B out in 2020. I remember reading it in some informational brochure.
