I'm the guy who thinks the new generation of pilots needs their heads examined about how "important" they feel their toys are.

I can see how you would think we've gotten "soft." But we can still do 250 nm straight-line VFR cross countries in a 152 with a sectional and E6-B. We do them on a regular basis for training. Then they let us play with the toys and, well, we never look back.

Yeah you do it once during your initial training then never look back.

No more so than a non-transponder equipped aircraft is today.

Are you talking about ded reckoning to "children of the magenta"? I reread the thread and think that's what you're commenting on. Since some (most) threads are not linear, quoting the post you're responding to, may help in the future.
