Luckily it sounds like nobody was injured during the evacuation, and it makes good press I suppose, so all's well that ends well.

As for dropping the masks... probably doesn't do much for the passengers (as noted, the masks don't seal well against your face) but with no actual fire in the cabin it doesn't hurt anything either and makes everybody feel like they're doing something instead of just sitting there coughing and waiting for the end to come.

The masks are not designed to seal to the face. They work on the same principle as nasal cannula type GA systems. They simply inject a small amount of O2 into the ambient air. They should not be deployed in a smoke situation and the O2 canisters burn very hot and can create some smoke which makes things more confused.

There is a reason they are called fire handles.
pretty sure the guy isn't dumb enough to push ALL fire handles, just the one in question the checklist will probably direct you to do anyways in the event of damage/fire…. Have a cup of coffee I think you read too far into his statement….

From what I've seen about this incident it looks like the flight attendants took it upon themselves to manually deploy the O2 masks and also initiate the ground evacuation.

In one of the videos a flight attendant can be heard yelling "BRACE, BRACE, BRACE" at the top of her lungs during landing. Really? Where did she get the idea there would be anything other than a normal landing? Normal as far as the plane landing in a normal manner, albeit with a single engine.

It sounds like one or more flight attendants completely overreacted to this emergency and caused the passengers to think they were in a much worse situation than they really were. Possibly the purser or the lead flight attendant since they are usually the ones to set the mood for the rest of the flight attendants.

An engine failure with a blown oil seal makes a lot of smoke, but once it's shut down it's not a big deal. It's just an engine failure and a single engine landing.

I'm kind of wondering just what kind of communication there was between the flight deck and cabin.

In the video it has the pilot telling ATC that they will be evacuating.

And those idiots need to be FIRED! NEVER deploy PAX O2 in a smoke or fire situation! Like pouring gas on the flames....

also initiate the ground evacuation.
Not necessarily a bad thing. Depends on the situation in hte back at the time.

If the flight crew briefed an evac then they did the right thing. If they did it on their own they were just a bunch panicked little hens/(and roosters) running around with their collective heads cut off.

Looks like it was the pilot that initiated the evacuation after all. The video captures the pilot giving three chimes and calling "Easy Victor." At that point the flight attendants complied with the evacuation order.

At the 2:52 point the pilot is clearly heard initiating the evacuation.

I'm interested in reading the transcript of communications between the flight deck and cabin.

Unbelievable. Brace?! It's a single engine landing with virtually everything operative (except one engine of course) on a VFR day. Someone please explain this to me.
And, after the rollout there at the end - everyone appears calm - the cabin looks very livable. But hey! Let's all take a ride down the slides and shut this runway down for good!
Unless there is something I'm missing, what's the problem? Why go through captain upgrade and make the pay if you are just going to be a robot and not use common sense?
Save your company and passengers some time, money, and trouble - if it's reasonably safe to do so - and taxi to the gate. Plus grandma and mom with her infant child don't have to take a chance down a slide. Unreal.

Did you guys read some of the comments from the general public on that video.

Like OMG there are some idiots amongst us.

The pilot down shifted and caused an over rev. From a self proclaimed highly experienced pilot.

That B' shouldn't have been yelling brace.... Repeated multiple times.

They are amongst us and they vote......

Does that come with the automatic transmission or just standard 9 speed with overdrive.
