Plus most departments fly helicopters and not airplanes. My department has ONe helicopter and one part time pilot. He is a Detective full time and flies only when needed. The requiremens in my department are 2000 hours total time. 1000 hours in a helicopter. 500 hours in a Turbine helicopter and 100 hours in a Bell 406. SO you see, thats not gonna happen. I have never fown a helicopter in my life so flying for my department is not an option.
Before you ask about Federal agencies, again, you have to be an Agent first and the cut off age to be a Fedral agent is 36. I am 38.
You can ge hired at CBP FW only with a good chance to cross-train to helo's. Fairly solid rumor that the age is being bumped from 37 to 40 this year also. FWIW. But the FW mins are 1500TT unless your an agent, then it's 250...with a internship type program till you hit 1500.
