I don't know where these people live, but damn it sure seems safe there! I was in Seattle the other day and saw more bums begging for money than I could count. I wouldn't say Seattle is a scary city....

Most of us avoid the bad areas of Memphis, and there are plenty of them. Murder rates are high, no doubt. But if you look where these murders take place, it is in those bad areas where you don't need to be. The murder rates in Gtown or Collierville are basically nonexistant, as well as crime in general. Both towns are closely patrolled and those that don't belong there often times get pulled over. I can honestly say that I think it is as safe as you will find in a large city. Most of these guys that have these terrible stories, weren't to savvy about where to go in this town. I don't think you will get accosted in Collierville. Hanging out near the airport and Brooks road may not be a great place to grab a cup of joe. Don't drive on empty...

Elem schools in these areas are fine and middle/high schools are iffy. Some are decent to good some are not. Private schools are an option, pick up an extra out and back each month and send your kid to a great school. With the cost of living there, you could probably afford to send your kids to a very good private school.
