Actually, I'm not particularly selfish. I have been in this sector for 14 years. I am one of those folks that is perfectly happy being the biggest fish in a little pond (a puddle jumping lifer). I like the life and have no desire to fly across oceans (flights over an hour bore me to he!!). I DO have an issue with folks that care nothing for pay (and as an extension, quality of life).

The OP said his SO would provide income such that he didn't care about pay. Maybe he would think differently if I said I would do his SO's job for nothing just because I wanted to make it a "career" and eventually his SO was paid a pittance because I and a zillion other people would do the work for free.

I paint and do photography as hobbies. I do these things because I enjoy them. But I would NEVER want to take jobs away from professionals who do these things. They are my HOBBIES not my CAREER.

I fly AS A PROFESSION because it pays the bills, and I enjoy it more that scrubbing toilets. Still, it is a JOB. I am pretty good at it, and I expect to be paid for my proficiency. If that is being selfish, then yes, I am selfish. Perhaps you do not value your skills, but I do.
LOL, not selfish at all are you? You hit the nail on the head. I don't value my skill. It's always been my prospective that a monkey could learn to fly as long as you beat him with hard enough stick. ????? Your post sounds like it should be in a GJ rant. WTH does OP's question have anything to do with some SE taking over a FO job or accepting employment at a lesser because he was enroute to an easy A? He asked a dam question about hotel points!! Not all jobs and companies are created equal and this extends outside the airlines. Many professionals choose to work for X company and accept $2 less because X company has much better medical benefits than Y company. What' the difference here? Another pilot may put a greater priority on flight benefits and be willing to accept a bit less $ to have a greater boarding priority. It's not their responsibility to justify their needs to you or anyone else.
Another may choose to go with an airline with an all jet fleet, or better yet, an all EMB 170 fleet because they feel it will help them with THEIR personal goals to fly heavy jets.

Guess what all you 'bro' sympathizers, yes it does make a difference. Cathay Pacific's application pre-screen askes for 'heavy jet' time and it wasn't until recently they began to accept 53,000 GTOW as a minimum. (RJ-200 GTOW)

If it is your concern that someone else may take over your job for FREE then I would highly suggest to quit whining about it and do something. When I say do something that means do something OTHER than ***** about someone else who is doing it. Here's what cha do.... improve on your skill and align yourself to be in a better position so that it can not be taken over. You said you were happy puddle jumping so, as long as your management continues to hire 500 hour pilots then your skilled profession will always be threatened by someone who will do the same job for less. Don't like it???.. then make a personal change and quit bickering about what someone else does.

If you are looking for "airline equality" then you were born in the wrong era. This is post-dereglation and yes the competition is fierce. In the mean time I will continue to just beat my monkey so that it can take over my job.
