In my case, I only served 13 months after 9/11 which qualifies me for 60% of the Post 9/11 GI Bill for 12 months. The VA told me this over the phone without me even asking about it which suprised me. I am using the Montgomery GI Bill (Ch.30) for flight training due to it being a better deal for me and will use all of it prior to the 10 year mark. You can convert to the Post 9/11 if you served after 9/11, you just have to figure out what gives you the most. I can tell you that they are backed up on the reimbursement for flight training under Ch. 30. I have submitted training for Aug, Sept, Oct and have not received the first dime. Just spoke with the VA on 11/17 about it and they said something about computer problems causing the delay (no suprise).
The odd thing is, if you convert with one day of eligibility left under Ch. 30 you'll only get one day's worth of benefits from Ch. 33. But if you've completely exhausted your benefits under Ch. 30, you'll get 12 months worth of benefits under Ch. 33.
