Actually, if it's over 10 yr old, the tax goes away. We pay a flat $35 for my kid's 14 yr old Rover. Since Memphis tags are close to $100 after all the wheel taxes and extras, it's not a bad deal. Plus the tax portion of the car tag is deductible from your Fed taxes. (for all our other vehicles.)
