SkyWest buys you what I would call a "summer" uniform. In the winter it is up to you to keep yourself warm and there are two ways to do that. Either of those ways SkyWest will front you the money and you pay them back with a $35 payroll deduction each payday. I think the leather jacket is a great way to go because they are very nice, made in the USA and can be used after you leave SkyWest for another job. They can also be dressed down so they do not look like a uniform piece and worn in public on layovers.

The reason you won't buy a jacket from WalMart is because they are serious about their pilots conforming to their uniform standards and you will end up choosing between your coat or your job.
