SkyWest buys you what I would call a "summer" uniform. In the winter it is up to you to keep yourself warm and there are two ways to do that. Either of those ways SkyWest will front you the money and you pay them back with a $35 payroll deduction each payday. I think the leather jacket is a great way to go because they are very nice, made in the USA and can be used after you leave SkyWest for another job. They can also be dressed down so they do not look like a uniform piece and worn in public on layovers.

The reason you won't buy a jacket from WalMart is because they are serious about their pilots conforming to their uniform standards and you will end up choosing between your coat or your job.

Does Horizon Air use EFB's yet? I heard they were going to get them soon.

you can also wear the wool sweater from crewgrear, a personal favorite of mine, because you can put your stripes on it and you dont need to wear the hat. youre also allowed to go out and buy a long black overcoat or raincoat (usually around $150) but then you are required to wear your hat with that.

personally, I don't dig the flasher look, so I bit the bullet and got the leather jacket. Over the last few sub freezing days here in ORD, I'm glad I did...

I haven't seen one yet, but I believe they are supposed to start going in the Q400 this month.

Thanks QC, I heard that pilots are 4x more willing to look stuff up on an EFB over paper.
