CEO's don't directly denigrate another carrier/CEO like that just for kicks. This is Horton's "keep American my American" speech to rally the troops around his plan. US are the barbarians at the gate de jour. Their pay rates are scary, and it appeals the the little bit of Nordstrom-pilot pride in all of us.

Which is exactly what is expected of him to say! After handing labor a *** sandwich proposal, he is deflecting outrage by inflating your PRIDE.
Why was THIS speech not made 2 weeks ago when Parker announced, during the earnings report, that US had in fact hired investment firms to study a possible merger?
He is playing good cop, bad cop simultaneously.
If one wants to obtain insight information on a possible merger, don't look at what YOUR airline is doing. Look at what the OTHER is doing.
