Scam: noun; an illegal plan for making money:
Some of it has nothing to do with discipline or commitment. You can work out every day and not get great results. You can get a more effective workout with a trainer. Should you need him/her for every workout, no but it is good to have some suggestions on the best workout for what you want. A trainer can target areas and suggest things that will work better than your workout.
Why do you think every college and major sports team has strenght/speed trainers? Think there's no discipine on the teams? They all must be prima-donnas with no drive.
What about the celebrity types that can radically change their physique?
And honestly if a person does need a trainer due to lack of discipline, but that trainer gets him/her off the couch and in shape, who cares if it's a "scam", because if it worked then it's not a scam.
