Advice #1 - join Sniper's Hide yesterday and do a LOT of reading.
Advice #2 - Return that Firefield as soon as it arrives, and put those funds toward better glass.
Here's why: for long range shooting, you want the very best optics you can afford because you can't hit what you can't see...and seeing the target takes a lot more than magnification. A high magnification, cheap ($100) optic is going to have crappy lenses, poor light transmission, a small eyebox and FAR too little elevation adjustment. The scope you bought, according to Amazon, has 1/4 MOA adjustments and "72 clicks of locking windage and elevation adjustment". That means only 18 MOA of elevation.
Assuming you are able to get a 100yd zero smack in the middle of your available elevation (unlikely), you are only going to have 9 MOA of elevation left...which will barely get M118LR spec ammo (175 Sierra Matchking @ 2600fps) to 400 yards.
I am a magnification ***** myself, I had a Bushnell 4200 8-32x40 at one time and loved it...but you can have too much magnification and put yourself into a world of hurt with mirage and clarity. I like my 6x24 but it can be a bit much at times, and really, my next optic will probably be a 3-12x because that's more than enough for hitting a MOA-size piece of steel (or a man) out to 1000yd.
Good "budget" scope options: SWFA SS 10x42 or 16x42, Bushnell 3200 10x40 mil/mil, Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40 or 6-18x40, Weaver Grand Slam Tactical 3-10x40 (I have one of these and LOVE it), Mueller Tactical, or Millett TRS. You can buy new on places like Midway, or buy used on places like 24hourcampfire, TheHighRoad, or SnipersHide.
Literally hundreds of folks run the SWFA 10x42 or Bushnell 10x on Remington 700s and Savage 10/110s to very good effect...
