"the hourly rate is better than average" 19.02/hr is better than the average? hmmm Where? and no, guarantee is not reduced in training at most regionals! Maybe just the ones you work at! Also, what is your duty and trip rig? "the rigs are good by regional standards" Are they good by regional standards or just by your standards? it may be different now but you did have to pay for your jepps at one point did'nt you? Well I should hope you get positive space in training? I mean they are training you to fly their airplanes, are'nt they? nice come back! Your informal commuter policy can just as eaily work against you as it can for you. what is the policy on being extended? is it unlimited extensions? it doesn't do too much good to form a union after you have already been let go, now does it??? Brah, I am not saying SKW is a bad place to work, I have debated going there myself. but it is just not what you guys who work there make it out to be! Especially, with the leather jackets and all!
It's OK if your friends tell you bad info; it's a poor reflection on you if you believe take it as gospel, and it's a REALLy poor reflection on your judgement if you pass it off to others unverified, especially others who might use that info to make a job decision.
Everything you said was undoutedly true...in 1989. I didn't pay for my Jepps and neither will any new hires. First year pay sucks at SKW, but you will make it up second year (plus bonuses). What does an amflight professional know about rigs? I know about rigs from working at multiple airlines...trust me, SKW has better ones than most, and many have none at all.
I'm not defending SKW because they were the first one to call me and I'm trying to justify being there. I selected SKW from among a variety of regional and fractional employers...they were the best opportunity in the West, and one of the best in the nation (geography ruled out AWAC, XJet, etc.) Horizon is probably better, but commuting into the Pac NW from Cali is brutal.
