Pbs isn't the real problem. PBS could work and could afford pilots a decent QOL while saving the company money. The problem lies in the work rules of a new system. A new set of rules with loopholes, unintended consequences, and new ways for management to blindly "misinterpret" the contract. We, the pilots, lose little by little with these interpretations and have no effective way of standing our ground. The grievance and arbitration process is a complete joke.
When you weigh the two options in the mind of a legacy xjt guy you have option A our current contract which isn't perfect but it is a known evil with past precedence and option B a PBS system which does have potential but we know management doesn't play fair. We have no way to effectively fix a misinterpretation. Waiting a year for an arbitrator to tell the company that it blatantly violated our contract is great but we just got raped for that year. A whole new system with a whole lot of raping until they learn and we define the rules 4 years after we sign this contract.
I couldn't agree more. PBS has the potential, but management keeps f'ing with it. No suprise there really...
