I didn't realize how hard commuting is. Even holding a line now it sucks up five-six extra nights per month and god knows how many hours you could have spend at home being productive or spending time with friends and family.

If I had it to do again I'd seriously consider waiting, even at considerable loss of seniority, to get hired at a carrier with a base in my hometown. I even know that's no guarantee, but wow would my QOL be better. Other than a tripling of pay or my girlfriend growing beer-dispensing boobs, it would be the single best thing to improve quality of life.
