The POS96 contract was most famous for the early out provisions.
Its a long story but there were many allegations of serious corruption and misconduct on the part of the negotiators and members of the MEC. I don't think there is any hint of that sort of thing this time.
The 96 MEC "misled" (to use the kindest word) the membership about the contents of that contract. Management misled the pilots about their finances and the need for certain concessions. It was a mess. We had the "Ryan Report" which ALPA commissioned to investigate the whole affair and then they disavowed it and tried to bury it when it came back with the nasty truth. We had a lot of fallout and recriminations. DALPA was a circular firing squad for a while after that.
We can criticize this 2012 contract, but thankfully the integrity of the MEC is not an issue.
This is not like 96.
Contract 96 promised growth, it was the 1 item that actually came true.
