From the information on this thread:

NWA started compass and hired the pilots to flow up to "mainline."

NWA Pilots allowed this to happen instead of getting those aircraft under their contract.

Compass pilots went through a "mainline" interview.

Those airplanes are flown at a cheaper rate than if they were a "mainline" equipment buy pilots that were hired by NWA and have a mainline position when available at Delta.

YES, "B scale."
