Default Dear UCH BOD

Best thing I've read in a while from CAL's LAX Council:

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE MANAGEMENT OF UNITED CONTINENTAL HOLDINGS

You have failed.

You have failed in the eyes of 12,505 pilots by showing a lack of commitment to completing a contract. You have failed in the eyes of 87,571 employees by showing that “dignity & respect” is nothing more than a meaningless sound bite. You have failed in the eyes of thousands of investors by showing that you are incapable of merging two companies as you promised. You have failed in the eyes of millions of passengers by showing that your idea of customer service means minimal service. And lastly, you have failed yourselves by lining your pockets with money you haven’t earned.
Over the course of the last few months, your true character has revealed itself. We now realize that you never desired to bargain in good faith. We now realize that you have no intention to create a viable (much less successful) airline. We now realize that your business plan is based on copying what our competitors are doing, but without the resources they have. We now realize that what you lack in vision and understanding, you more than make up for in ignorance and ego.

You have taken this operation from worst to first and back to worst. When the next generation of corporate histories is written, you will find your fame—as the self-proclaimed “professional managers” who decimated a company in record time.

The good news is that we will eventually prevail.

We will wait.

We will wait until we are treated as the professionals that we are and compensated appropriately. We will wait until you are done destroying this airline, then we will rebuild it—piece by piece—until it truly becomes the world’s most admired airline. We will wait until our Board of Directors awakens from the hypnosis they are under and realizes how much you have promised and how little you have achieved.

If there is one success that will be attributed to you, it is that you have solidified the resolve of this pilot group, and all employee groups, who bear witness to your failures.

Regards,

Local Council 153, on behalf of 12,505 pilots,
87,571 employees,
thousands of investors, and
millions of passengers
