If I were take LINUX for a test drive, I'd use the same one. If you're running on a netbook, the Easypeasy one is good too.
I really like Mint when I had it.
And to USMC, just like aviation, there's a TON of LINUX message boards. All of them dealing with the specific deriv of LINUX you may try out. As well the standard FAQ's, help section, etc etc etc.
And just like on here, if you use a LINUX message board, the search function is you friend ;-)
