Kew Gardens is the place to be for a cheap chrashpad, but if you are looking for a place to move too then don't limit your possibilities. In 1.5 hours drive you can be pretty far away from the less appealing parts of Queens.

Check out SW Connecticut, New Jersey, and even Westchester County.
