I guarantee you sanitation workers in my town make less than 25K... cops less than 35k.. firefighters START at 24K a year.... things are different everywhere
Pilots get paid the same everywhere even though they usually are based in an urban center. Where I live it is common for urban firefighters and police to reach or exceed 100K. Plus they have an awesome benefits package. The cost of living is high but they are well compensated for it.
Pilots however are stuck with crummy wages nationwide even if you get JFK as your base.
Where I live a nice two bedroom apartment costs $800-1000/month. 100 miles west and it jumps to $1400 or more. The world of minimum wage work and common jobs is gaining on pilots. In 10 years a pilot will wish they earned as much as a handyman.
