I don't know much about the L35, but IIRC the Encore is slightly bigger/heavier. Its also slower. The lear has steam gauges while the Encore is glass cockpit.

The lear is probably more fun to fly, but I like the Encore too... (It's a lot more responsive than the CRJ I used to tool around in).

One is a porche with few comforts, the other is a VW Jetta... not so fast, but has nicer comforts.

One is called the Slowtation, the other has a reputation for tearing up the skies.

The Encore is almost certainly newer (only been in production for about 6 years).

If you don't have any jet experience, I might suggest the Encore. It's very easy to fly, and has very basic systems that are not a big step up for folks with only piston or light turboprop time.
