I think my unmitigated arrogance and blind self confidence to write all this contrarian stuff comes from my time as a recurrent ground school instructor.

Recurrent ground school is an unusual situation where a single person is in the position of providing instruction to a classroom of highly experienced professionals. It takes a pair to stand up in front of a class of bored and irritated pilots and try to produce meaningful new information.

No matter what you say in balance is possibly hundreds of years of line experience. If your message is off by even a tiny bit there will be opposition in a hurry. Overtime I noticed that lively conversation was instigated by controversy. Debates left the class with a higher understanding that could not have been achieved without the exchange. Different perspectives on the same issue provided a more fleshed out and deep understanding of whatever the topic at hand was.

Both sides could be right and both sides could be wrong at the same time in the end however everyone left better informed than if they had just sat through another lifeless lecture.
