Can I do my FAA ATP check ride on a CRJ200 simulator ? I have an SIC CL65 type rating.

When I went last month to Pan AM for my recurrent training they told me I have to pay for the upgrade course to take the ATP check ride which costs $11000. is this because I have an SIC type rating ?
