Wow, there are some scary replies on this thread!

This program was started in 1952 to allow passengers traveling from Canada to the US to bypass major hubs like JFK or IAD and land at LGA or DCA where CBP facilities are not available. More passengers travel between LHR and the US than AUH and the US. Is there a CBP facility at LHR? I'm not against the program expanding, but it needs to make sense. If there isn't enough traffic for a US airline to justify flying nonstop to AUH, there shouldn't be a need to have a CBP facility there no matter who's paying for it.

As a resident of Dubai for the last four years I can say this city will NEVER get a CBP facility simply because of its friendly attitude towards Iran. Abu Dhabi isn't on such friendly terms with Iran and that's why there is even talk of this facility. It's strange, but welcome to the Middle East lol.
