What is better climb faster/slower indicated or faster indicated and possible lower climb rate, in order to get the turn to the airway?

I always thought it was distance so flying faster would be better, but the guy I was flying with today thought a getting higher faster was better.

Both make sense to me, why would you want to blast off 300kts in the wrong direction right? but if you don't get the turn until X amount of miles from the airport then wouldn't getting there faster be better?
Very complex question. When you say CRI climb, I'm assuming you're going to SFO via DEEZZ, GAYEL, or COATE, which means you'll be vectored East of JFK, climb on a NE heading, before getting the turn westbound to your fix. If you are departing via the Breezy Point Climb, you'd have been departing via RBV, which would have you turning reference LGA's KORRY STAR, which crosses RBV at 7,000-10,000ft.

I've visited the TRACON (N90), and it seems that when departing to the Northwest (DEEZZ/GAYEL/COATE), going fast or climbing with a good rate doesn't matter much. They vector you over a specific groundtrack, keeping you east of LGA climbout airspace, even if they are not using that bit of airspace (i.e. LGA departing 31). You'll still go NE towards the LI Sound, before being turned West, and kept at 17,000 for quite a while if departing over GAYEL or COATE.

And then throw in the complexities of departing 22R, or 4L, or 13R. And LGA departing 13, 4, or 31, and it all changes, haha.

I'd say just climb at 250, accelerate normally out of 10. 'Green dot' or clean speed won't hurt as long as it's not a lot lower than 250 (i.e. 200 KIAS).
