I was laying over there two years ago on New years's eve. We got to see the fireworks coming off the Burj Khalifa from our own hotel, out on the balcony.
It was a great show, but if you are going to actually try to go down to the Birj to see it, you have to get down there very early, like noon! The traffic on the roads that we could see from our balcony was not even moving from about 10pm on. They all had to sit in their cars, while we had a great view from our hotel.
