Yes it is legal to log it as PIC.
Are you saying if one has a PIC type on the A320, he can log PIC as sole manipulator for the legs he flies? And obviously not as PIC as far as the airlines are concerned? That sounds fishy.

For example, both SWA and Fedex specifically write that they want PIC not as sole manipulator of controls but as the one commander who signs off on the paperwork for the flight.
