Anyone care to offer up to date advice on the subject? I'm looking at leaving my Guard unit for an IMA job. Unit is doubling up O-5s and below during UTAs and has gone south in other ways. Plus the commute is expensive as I moved away and now drive to drill. I'm hoping to get an IMA job at an active duty base that is much closer to home.
Questions
1. The base where I want an IMA job is 200 miles away. Would I get mileage/per diem for travel days when I accomplished duty?
2. I'm sure it varies, but could I expect to do 4 days in a row every other month? I understand Cat A positions have 48 TPs and Cat B have only 24.
3. Are IMA jobs any more or less secure as a trad Guard or USAFR position in a unit that could be subject to BRAC? I'd think a headquarters IMA job would be safe but in this budget environment you never know.
