All of the above is correct. I have been in an IMA job for 4 years, non-flying. I was told that since we do not belong to a Sq/Grp/Wg structure, that we cannot be in flying billets. IMA jobs are generally pretty flexible. I lucked into an awesome IMA job. I actually would not trade it for a flying gig at this point.

Thread bump:
-Are IMAs deployable? Or are IMA deployment opportunities volunteer only? i.e. Is it possible to show up to a staff job only to find out you'll be going on a 180 all inclusive paid vacay to the ME?
-For the paying IMA jobs, are we eligible for TRS like TR gigs?
-Realistically, how many days a month can I expect to be gone from home at the IMA unit?

Thanks!

Yes IMA's are deployable, dependent on AFSC it could be mostly a volunteer thing. There is more of an argument not to deploy IMA's as their job is to backfill home stations. I am guessing you are currently in a 340th unit based on your screen name so no you won't be that protected from invol. no other unit has an AFI that specifically prohibits non vol deployments.

Yes IMA's get TRS

IMA's get 24 IDT and 12 AT RMP and TEAPS are job dependent

I loved being an IMA...less work and more flexibility. My position allowed me to keep my flight pay without the headaches of trying to stay current or do mobility requirements. CBT's are your biggest headache...wait, that's everyone's headache.

If all you're trying to do is maintain enough points to get to retirement. Occasionally get on MPA orders and have control of your life...IMA is a great option.

Downfall, you have to be smart on taking care of yourself. Our support is regionalized. It's a great option.

how do you get flight pay as an IMA? Only reason I really wasn't interested in an IMA job is I didn't want to lose that chunk.
