The first dozen UAL ETOPS planes were domestic planes upgraded by Boeing with an ETOPS kit. All planes are upgradable. Those ETOPS kits included the second cross feed valve. It more comes down to Boeing selling us a new 900 vs. providing support for a 20 year old plane.
Don't know who started the story about the old UAL 757's can't have winglets? Many of the JFK PS planes are nose mumbers 2, 4, 8, 12, and so on, and have winglets. Nothing different about those planes.
In the end, it's just money, and Glen's refusal to spend money on anything, the bill is now due and the question is, how much do we spend vs. sell to FedEx?
I was told it was because they didn't have the hydraulic-motor generator on them. Is this not accurate? Just curious. I don't remember if that is a requirement for ETOPS.
