-5.50 & -5.75 + .25 astigmatism in one eye, was where my eyes were at when I couldn't get a waiver for a guard unit. (and they were trying hard to get me one... It was just outside of what the AF says is waiver-able).
I got LASIK, and I'm trying to apply for slots again.
Unfortunately, there are still a lot of people out there that think LASIK isn't waiver-able, and I had one reserve unit that didn't want to deal with a LASIK waiver at all. But I have a student who got LASIK about a year and a half ago that got picked up by a C-130 squadron, and have met several others in passing that were able to get LASIK waivers, so I know its possible.
Overall, I'm really happy with the surgery though. Now I see better than I ever did with contacts/glasses. After being pretty much blind without my contacts pre-op, it is the most amazing thing to wake up and just be able to see every morning. Also, I can't wait for waterskiing this summer without worrying about my contacts falling out
