Obviously it can help. It's not the end-all-be-all. Personally I found the first thousand or two TPIC to be hugely beneficial in my development as a pilot. 95% of the time things go relatively smooth. It's those times when you're on RSV, get sent last minute to MEX with a new FO and some weather where it's really up to you. Nobody is there to hold your hand and they're depending on your experience. Hopefully as an FO you did a similar trip and took something from it.


But I'd say if you have a couple thousand TPIC, a degree and a clean record you're in great shape going forward.

In the meantime network, do an internship, and keep your nose clean.
