Regarding the "pool", it's a term used to describe the wait to start training class after you have been offered employment. Usually it's not really a "pool" if the airline is hiring continuously and starting routinely schedule classes, but when the music stops and there is a pause in class starts but hiring and job offers have continued to be extended, there is a wait, hence a pool of vetted applicants that are waiting to start.
