I agree with your insight. However, consider this:
I was at YV for 8 years. During that time, I was based in 6 domiciles. Most of it was not by choice. Bases open, close, grow, downsize, etc.

I finally just decided to live where I wanted to live and commute.

Honestly, you just can't win at the regionals.
