Unlike you, I don't think our (or for that matter, your) passengers are that stupid. I don't believe there are that many who have yet to "catch on" to the fact that SWA isn't ALWAYS THE LOWEST FARE. There...I said it....for those remaining few who hadn't already caught on.
If SWA does choose to implement bag (and other) fees, will it be a PR challenge? You bet....in the near-term if not handled properly. I'm betting they will handle it properly (though clearly, it won't for a moment fool the Delta Peanut Gallery here on APC
) and will still maintain the necessary consumer value perception in what ever ticket price/ancillary fee arrangement they decide on.
Then again, maybe Bags Fly Free Forever! After all, I'm just a (non-legacy
) line puke....what do I know.
P.S. My sincere apologies for encouraging this blatant thread hijack! Let's get back to discussing how SWA is screwing up those 717s for Mother Delta!
