Actually the crew of that Herc got Air Force Commendation Medals for that one because they followed the book to a T and it just wasn't their day. Everyone walked away. Infact a decision was made to move someone up front who would have been killed had he been in the back when the prop came through. This airplane had a problem that was supposedly fixed with the checklist, but unknown to the crew a component that holds the gear down after it has been extended had departed the airplane while there gear was put down. Good down and locked indications in the cargo area and the cockpit and perfect egress. No bafoonery there, but you're right it happens from time to time; not all the time.
