I always get a kick out of this. A Captain who comes directly from the left seat of a Seminole and straight to a jet job, spends his time pulling gear up and learning to order fuel in gallons until his number comes up for upgrade. He looks over at me on the right side and asks some stupid private pilot part 91 general knowledge question that they should know in their freaking sleep and never get tested on by the airline because they assume this cat should know what he is doing. If they knew the CP would probably fire them. The Feds would certainly have a chat with them. And yeah you need to know the part 91 stuff.

It blows but seniority is everything. Knowledge is nothing if you've got the tickets in your hand. A violation or worse is usually in the future. Watch you and your partner’s backs, carefully!

As for the guy with patience, in the end you'll appreciate the experience much more then the seniority. Someday it may even save your life, that and you can answer all those cool questions about airspeed in class C airspace for that "Jet-Jobber" or “MAPD Wonder Pilot” in the left seat that’s about to get a letter of investigation from the FISDO .
