this book discusses the AA hiring approach, circa 80's/90's. In sum, it was "seek the most arrogant, cocky, self assured guy" possible. In this book, or somewhere else, it was mentioned that technical skill was valued.

Of course, nowhere was "people skills" or "on the road 4 days with this guy" mentioned.
