The real reason the US/UA merger fell apart was because it was a bad deal for UA. Somehow Wolf hoodwinked UA into paying way too much. DC Air was Wolf's idea and part of the original package to get it past the government. The DOJ came out and said they were going to block the merger and UA paid their break-up fee, sighed in relief and went on their way. IMHO, as always.
