I wouldn't go as far as using the word "lazy" as I have a lot of respect for the two guys doing ALL the recruiting and interviews. However that's lots of work for two guys, I see why they don't have every interested candidate positive spaced to PHX for a "dog and pony show" like a lot of the other regionals.

What do you really learn about a guy in a 15 minute interview? Other than they can be a chameleon during the two hour interview and company presentation.
This is a good point. There are definitely people who will say "the right thing" in an interview, and once hired, go back to being themselves. Then there are the folks that undersell themselves or don't interview well and get eliminated before they even start. Sometimes you need to work with someone for awhile to even begin to see who this person really is. The reality is that this costs money.
