Absolutely. 6 day trips have been pretty common when a base is short of crews or for flying out of a noncrew city. NY has flown trips from London to MIA, DFW, and ORD on the 777 and RDU on the 767. PHL or CLT could be flown by any other base as a 6 day without deadheading and it wouldnt surprise me if they turn to that. Only draw back I can see is in hotel costs during the domestic layover.
I'd say that's a relatively minor consideration. Don't know about AA but at US we routinely have overnights in other domiciles, and if it were that cost-prohibitive they wouldn't do it. Shoot, I've done CLT A320 4-days where all three overnights were in PHL!
