What does the company prefer now that they are on the S&P? Have you strategically thought about their desires and next moves? What works best to add the value we all want? Is there an outside of the box way of doing business that does not go back to traditional bargaining but also does not be overly pragmatic while still being proactive with our corporation? It is important to realize that the move you may want to make may not be the move that is best for you to make.
I think it's pretty clear from acl's response here that our MEC has decided against "traditional bargaining" as an acceptable procedure for Delta pilots. DALPA has decided that the new way forward is to accept COLA pay increases while fully funding them with other concessions...as long as we do it early before "traditional bargaining" begins.
C2015 will be no different. DALPA will pretend to be a union by producing another survey and some tough talk as to how they're going to actually pay attention to it. But by then the terms will already have been agreed to. COLA pay raises fully funded by concessions. Then the real bargaining between management and DALPA will begin. The bargaining as to how best to jointly report what a great deal it is, the time value of money, the concessions really aren't concessions, and...how much management appreciates DALPA's "new style" of union leadership.
