Diceman, over the next decade the majors are going to hire a gazillion pilots. Right now 1800 is not a huge number compared to the 10,000hr regional guys out there. In five years it may be very competitive. But the Navy background is helpful and 1800 is enough. Even more helpful is a pilot at a major willing to walk your name over to HR and say "We need this guy." That will get you an interview at many airlines. (I'm at DAL.)

Spend the money to get a good prep course if you get an interview. The guys in the industry often know how to answer questions that a military guy typically does not (customer service/FAR/117/CRM.)
