Separation timing from Active Duty
#53
This post is supposed to be in response to LIGWUH from earlier. Not smart enough to attach it i guess.
I see this is a few month old post, and the replies everyone gave are good. Just a couple of thoughts. By this point you have already made your decision to stay or go. I know you're a J model guy and there aren't many in the guard/reserves, but if you're willing to go back to the H's you could find a good unit to join upon any separation from active duty. As has been mentioned before, it's a great way to augment your pay, and if you do make the jump and can't land an airline job immediately for whatever reason it'll keep you flying. Yes, you're light on time but it's anyone's guess as to how "deep" the pool of high times guys goes. As the hiring picks up, it will be a rapidly moving target. As always, networking is key so start getting back in contact with dudes you know at the airlines. If you've decided to stay on active duty for a few more years, I would still say start networking and find some good guard and reserve units for the time when you are actually going to get out. Neither can hurt and if you're anything like most guard and reserve guys I know, you will have fun flying in the military capacity. The airlines, while fun at times, is a job. Flying with the boys on the weekends is still where most of your fun flying will probably lie.
