I can see why UAL voters might be more inclined to feel the pressure to get a contract in place given the circumstances. I have no doubt that United would have continued to shrink one side and grow the other regardless of how it affected moral.
Agree. It was far more expensive to return furloughees on 8th year pay with a more expensive overall contract to the UAL side that to hire new hires on the CAL side on 1st year pay with a cheaper overall contract.
I'd have grown the CAL side like crazy and shrunk the UAL side if I were in management, which is essentially what they did.
